Volante Rosso’s Rain-Soaked Triumph at Sandown

Talbot & Day give Aston Martin its breakthrough GT World Challenge Australia victory

When the GT World Challenge Australia circus rolled into a wintery Sandown Raceway on 27 July 2025, few expected the weather to write the script. Yet in a drenched Race 2, our sponsored outfit Volante Rosso Motorsport unleashed an unforgettable charge, guiding their Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo to its first outright series win

A masterclass in the wet

Freshly-signed Jamie Day handed the #1 Vantage to team-mate Liam Talbot P5 after the compulsory stop. Talbot’s stint was pure grit: carving through a trio of Audis before a decisive move on Paul Lucchitti’s Mercedes with 12 minutes to go. A late lunge from Brad Schumacher kept pulses racing, but Talbot crossed the line just 1.023 s clear to seal the deal.

Championship momentum

The Sandown victory hauls Talbot/Day firmly into Pro-Am title contention heading to The Bend in September, while gifting Aston Martin its first GTWC Australia scalp since the brand’s spec-change.
